Inspirations

I can't wait till I get my photos done so that I can get creating new pieces. I bought alot of supplies back in March when sales were booming and haven't really touched them. Am dying to see what creations can be made out of these fabulous additions!!
Silk and Grosgrain ribbons. Melt. melt. melt.

Also, I got my new business cards from Overnightprints! I love them! They have rounded edges which makes them kid safe! Plus they are not stealing money out of my bank account *cough**cough* VISTAPRINT!!!!!! Those B one T charlies sold my account info to another company and they both took $20 a month out of my account for 5 months until I realised it!!! I had new business cards made because I wanted a more clean cut, professional look to Muntedkowhai. These cards will be handed out to potential wholesale buyers and other designers.

It is simple and straight to the point.

Photos from the Fashion show are trickling in at a most viscous pace!!! However, Alyssa (bless your heart for forwarding the email to me!) sent me a link to some photos taken by the Willamette week:

Theas

Now that the Fashion show is over, I get to do what I love to do best: create new pieces. Thea of Theas Interior (a most swoon worthy shabby chic antique store) had emailed me last week asking for 5 spring pieces. Business was slow for her during Christmas so she suggested that we would revisit Muntedkowhai at Theas in Spring. I'm so glad that she had recontacted me! After the Fashion show, I have realised how important it is to be present in Portland, in physical brick and mortar stores. It is definitely top on my to do list.

Here are the pieces that will be going to Thea's tomorrow:

Come see Muntedkowhai up close and person at Theas!

Also, I've listed my two Forecast Fashion pieces and they are now available at Muntekdowhai:

Monstrosity Necklace

Waipara Necklace

I have a photoshoot appointment with my mate Eric of Clearimagery on Saturday and I am SO excited because he takes amazing clear photographs. I can't wait because with more professional photos, I'm able to finish my wholesale catalogue, lookbook and my website! (I'm dying to launch my website!!) So to prepare for the shoots, I need to make all the necklaces I want to appear in my catalogue and website! This also means, I'm recreating and not creating which is a bit of a bore for me but it is something I definitely need to do.

Muntedkowhai loves Free. Free photobooths.

The Forecast Fashion show had a photobooth down in the installation section and it offered free photobooth photos for everyone! You can take as many as you want! Marty, Corrine and I went down there while the show was still going on and hence no line and could photobooth whore it all we wanted. My favourite pic is the one where Marty sabotages my photo by sneaking in. I love laughing hard! Oh and I love free.

Forecast Fashion show 2009

Insanity.
That was what I thought throughout the show. It was pure fun and I was always thinking wow. This is unreal. So cool. I got to the Armory at 3pm as my models were having their hair and make up done. The awesome Aysia from Paul Mitchell had printed a photo of Hello Lindello bloggers' Kate with her high geisha bun to reference. It was so funny to see a huge printed photo of you Kate! Thanks for the idea Kate, it looked FABULOUS! Such a great idea that the other emerging designer also gave her models (a guy and a gal) high geisha buns as well!!

What I wore to the show. Urban Outfitter jacket and American Apparel tee dress

Sasha getting her hair did.

Alyssa had a longer hair styilng process. She had Ladyfingers for the Gatsby run.

As models file in, the place started to get a bit crazy or as Adam Andreas said "control mess".

Alyssas' very cool hair.

I think the most unglamorous thing was the waiting. Oh the waiting. As an emerging designer with only two looks, I didn't really have anything to fret over. I had alot of things done and with Sasha finished and Alyssa almost done early in the set up, I did alot of waiting. There was a tub of wine, water and also a table laden with carrots, dips and all sorts of nibbles. I did get to talk to the very gifted Adam Andreas who, like me, was an emerging designer. You should check out his portfolio, his asymetrical cropped blazers are super cool. Plus his male models were a riot. I like Adam because he is also a social hermit like me. The funny thing about social hermits are that when one social hermit meets another social hermit and they talk about how awkward socializing is to them, the socialize with each other. Word. Donovan, one of his gorgeous models, schooled Sasha in putting fierce into her walk. Think of Mr J in ANTM but taller and way more beautiful. He instantly adopted her during those few hours of getting ready and even challenged my models to a walk off. It was at this time, I thought to myself. Oh my gosh, I'm here. I have models and other models are challenging them to a walk off. Pure crazyness.
Donovan and Sasha. Putting Tyra to shame. (Tyra! Tyra! Tyra!)

Alyssa and Sasha, nearly ready to go.

The music downstairs got louder and you could hear the chatter of the audience around 7.30pm and designers in the back were making last minute decisions. The room was filled with off white fairy dresses with taxidermy pieces in between, male models dressed in 1800s esque clothes with suspenders and a dreamy gleam in their eyes, gorgeous head pieces by Elizabeth Dye and just too many sights to behold. The emerging designer section got called to line up and we all went into the elevator to the second floor from which the models walk off from and down the stairs to a platform. The feeling of " oh just go go go!" is inevitable and when the MC introduces your line, your first model struts out. I'm not nervous but my palm is sweaty. It is like doing a presentation but you're not talking, someone is presenting your work and you're not nervous at all. Mostly because my models were so confident and awesome. It went all too quickly and before you knew it, the MC called the emerging designers to walk and bow. EEEP! There were so many faces and you're trying to scan for your family and friends in that fast instant. I saw Les (tall) and Marty (loud). After the bowing, we were free to watch the show with the audience. It was amazing. The place was packed so it was hard to see the designs from some places.

Sasha and I post show.

Marty and I went downstairs to the photobooth where you could take as many photobooth photos as you want for, FREEEE! I love free and I love photos so it was like totally awesome and stuff. I'll have to scan them in soon, as they are tres hilarious. Also, I want one for my future house.

I want to thank the Portland Mercury jurors: Marjorie, Brett and Pam for selecting Muntedkowhai and giving me this opportunity to show my work and for organizing this awesome event! A HUGE thank you to my beautiful models, Sasha and Alyssa who took time to meet up and sort out the finer details and were such dolls to work with! Lastly, a big thank you to my family and friends who came to the show, it meant so much to me that you came! Love you!

FLYDAY!

The Armory Lobby

Last night was a long one. We met at the Armory to have a practise run and it was so nice to finally see how the models were going to walk and whereabouts. The Armory, if you have not been there, is mainly an oval shaped interior, open space with three levels. The models are taking the lift down one floor and the runway starts at the descending stairs. It's going to be great! The only thing I really have to sort out now is Sasha's hair and makeup because I did not see the Paul Mitchell lady there last night. It was insane to see all the faces of these beloved Portland brands, right in the flesh but of course, I was too shy to introduce myself etc.

I am, however, not shy enough to camwhore and show you what I'm wearing to work today. Yes, you care:
loves loves loves lacy knee high socks.

Also, I loves it when anyone says "Loves it". It is so funny. I don't know why but it instantly brings a smile to my face. This smile is twice the size when it is said by gay men.

What is a Friday without a list that I won't be able to finish?! Here's my list (I encourage you to list in the comments as well so I don't feel bad that I'm the only one not completing my weekend list)

What I wore to work today

I pulled this outfit today because I need to do laundry. My mum made this skirt out of scarves!
