oh ladies

I was cleaning up my work space the other day and came upon a scrapbook I had started a year or so ago. There are hundreds of old maternal family photos in ziplock bags waiting to be organized and pasted. There are numerous photographs of my grandmother in her earlier years and I wanted to share them with you. We often see old black and white photographs of western family lifestyles but here are some straight from a traditional Malaysian Chinese family, mine:

Grandma, 1948. Look at her hair, how lovely!

Grandma. 1950. A bit of rouge on lips and cheeks.

Grandma. Date unkown. What a lovely cheongsam.

My Popo (Grandmother in Cantonese)

And finally, my mother:

I love mum's smile.

Muntedkowhai Wedding

My wedding pieces has arrived back from the Brooklyn Pop up wedding series. Unfortunately, none were purchased but all of my business cards are gone. Too bad my www.muntedkowhai.com link doesn't work. (I just cancelled it to buy it up again via dreamhost) I'm kind of beating myself up for not having it all figured out before the show began but what can you do, better organized next time!

Good news, the Muntedkowhai Wedding collection is now available for you! All necklaces in this collection are one of a kind.

A perfect weekend

I've been plagued with allergies today which left me very tired, miserable and not very motivated for any work. I did however manage to make a bit more headway with my dress. Here are better photographs:

Excuse my puffy eyes and chapped lips. I hate allergies!

Despite the allergies, I'm really enjoying the lovely sunshine this weekend and made an effort to not be inside on my computer:

and introducing Dino, not the last dinosaur but Tim's dog :
Hope all your weekend was relaxing!

Will you take me home?

I will make you feel oh so pretty.

~*~Which goose giveaway~*~

If you're a frequent (aka obsessed) Etsy browser as I am, Whichgoose is no new news to you. Iconic in her photographs and dreamy in her creations, Whichgoose send my heart a flutter with her whimsical headpieces and her gorgeous blue/grey slate eyes and long lashes!!

Whichgoose
is having her first giveaway on her blog and all you have to do is enter a comment by July 1st and win this butterfly comb. Ok so I must confess, I'm horribly scared of butterflies. Aaron thinks it is funny but I'll scream bloody murder if one flutters anywhere near me. Urgh, gives me the jeebies just thinking about it! However, Whichgoose has been able to make even this comb look alluring!

Click here to enter the giveaway!

Here are my personal favourites:

It has straps!

Last night, I went all hard out on my dress:

ok

I went to the doctors today. She felt my lump and proclaimed it inflammed lymph node. However, I am told to keep an eye on the size and if it grows bigger or is still present in a few weeks time, I would have to make another appointment. So breathing out for now.

I have been too wrapped up in Muntedkowhai these past few weeks, I have to take some time out for myself. Think cold beer, reading in the sun with sunscreen of course. You ladies have a grand weekend.

One, Two, Sharpen ya pencils!

Last year, the summer student I was teaching made me truly realize how much older I am. Well perhaps not older but perhaps how fast technology has changed. I forgot how we came upon the subject but basically my summer student had never seen an old school pencil sharpener. You know, the ones where you put the pencil in and your grind the blades against the pencil to sharpen it. She had never seen those before! I mean, wow! I used these when I was a wee kid and it brings back a lot of stationery crazed memories. The pencil shavings deposit box always smells so good and if you were anything like me, I got my giggles out of sharpening all of my colouring pencils and sitting back to smile upon my perfect pencils. (The smile would quickly fade when that certain pencil tend to break everytime I sharpen it. Darn darn darn!!!)

This made me look up on Etsy for a vintage pencil sharpener, not to purchase but just to admire:

This one almost look like a vintage airpline's propellor

I think this one is my favourite.

This one even has a lever to suction onto the desk!!

I promise promise promise

this will be my last on a whim purchase for my self. I had to though, it is gorgeous, summery AND in my size:

Gorgeous right?!?!! I can't wait to get them although I would not get to wear them until weekends. (No open toes in labs!) It is of course from the none other Allencompanynyc. Go and see if they have exquisite shoes in your size!

In other news, as I was sitting down for a movie last night, I was rubbing my neck and stopped dead. I could distinctively feel a rounded mass of an inch big on the left side of my neck. I massaged it and could feel that it was not attached and felt on the other side of my neck for symmetry but there was no mass there. It is rather large and it is not my lymph nodes. I am going to make an appointment for a check up, at least for peace of mind. If I have learnt anything from my aunt in HK (who has stage 4 breast cancer), it is check yearly and it is better to be a hypochondriac about these things than not. I had a lump under my left armpit aspirated a few years ago in NZ and it was just a mass of tissue so I am a bit weary about it now.

So ladies, beaware of your bodies and don't put off answering your own inkling of a doubt!
