Last year, the summer student I was teaching made me truly realize how much older I am. Well perhaps not older but perhaps how fast technology has changed. I forgot how we came upon the subject but basically my summer student had never seen an old school pencil sharpener. You know, the ones where you put the pencil in and your grind the blades against the pencil to sharpen it. She had never seen those before! I mean, wow! I used these when I was a wee kid and it brings back a lot of stationery crazed memories. The pencil shavings deposit box always smells so good and if you were anything like me, I got my giggles out of sharpening all of my colouring pencils and sitting back to smile upon my perfect pencils. (The smile would quickly fade when that certain pencil tend to break everytime I sharpen it. Darn darn darn!!!)
This made me look up on Etsy for a vintage pencil sharpener, not to purchase but just to admire:

Oh WOW! Thanks for the memory refresher...I had totally forgotton about those sharpeners. Funny!
Remember when you were taking a test and some kid always got up to sharpen their pencil in complete silence. I was always so annoyed! hehe. I sold one awhile ago, but now I wish I kept it.
haha i still prefer my wooden number 2 pencil over a mechanical pencil any day. and for some reason this really makes me feel old haha
If you really wanted to, we could go to my grandparent's place and marvel at the at a pencil sharpener (like the second photo down), mounted on the wall of the garage near the side door when you come to NZ in December.
Aaron, that's a date.
