Men like my boots

I had my oil changed the other day and the Oil change guy (OCG) asks me to release my hood. I fumble around and got so flustered and embarrassed that I could not find the lever in a nano second. I hate fitting into that stupid female driver stereotype. (I also hate it when I release my trunk instead of my gas door at the gas station) OCG tells me to open my door as he can do it for me (shammmmme)

OCG: HEYYYYYYY. Niiiiiice boots!
Me: Thanks. Yea.
OCG: What is your name?
Me: Here. *Hands over debit card*
OCG: Whooooa, how do you pronounce that?
Me: Hmm. You try.
OCG: *reads slowly in his head* PUNGG PARKT PKUUJ?
Me: No. It is pronounced Pang Puiyi.
OCG: My last name means Mr Beautiful in French.
*Wants to speed away*

At the hospital, after getting my 16 oz Americano, I passed an old man in his trucker hat with a tartan shirt and a vest. (OMIHTHWATSAAV)
OMIHTHWATSAAV: HEYYYYYYYYY!
Me: Huh?
OMIHTHWATSAAV: Where did you get those boots?!
Me: *Wonders to self if I should bother telling him about Diesel* Downtown, in the Pearl.
OMIHTHWATSAAV: Well! That is great! You don't see boots like that anymore! That's great!

Buying local and hand made

Sarah seven's creations are simplistically feminine.

Sarah Seven has been hot alllll over Etsy with her beautifully hand made dresses hitting the Wedding season. They are dresses I would pair my upcoming wedding necklaces with because her dresses are simple and textured (oh so so so lovely!) and my necklaces are more ornate. I know most people go with silver, diamonds and pearls for weddings but I think there is something utterly beautiful about lace for a statement. Just a tiny bit of lace. I'm biased!

More sneak peak:

Makes you wonder how people splurge $800 for a David Bridal gown ( shudders ) when you can get something so original, so insanely gorgeous and so local for a very affordable price. Now that "vintage" is so "in", I'm sad and flusterd that big companies will use "vintage" as a marketing ploy as they did with "Green". However, with popularity comes some awareness despite the ploys. As with everything, we all have to be well educated consumers. This reminds me of a NPR program I was listening to the other day that guest starred Alex Sandra from Alex Sandra's Vintage Emporium. (A local vintage styler in Portland) She said what we consume now is mainly mass produced, made in China and poorly made, then in 20, 30 years time, it will become "vintage" for the sake of time definition and how sad is that. It is, very sad. Despite that, tongue in cheek, she did say that something like that will probably not stand the test of time.

Speaking of time, um, I should have been in my car on my way to work 20 minutes ago. OOops!

Blocked

I've been running on empty for the past week or so upon the news of Aaron not graduating. Again. I'm tired of feeling angry then sad then restlessness and then a huge surge of anger and pulling torn feelings. I'm tired of having feelings. The past two years in Portland has been built on a dream that Aaron would graduate and we would be closer to moving to Australia to start our life together. Thus, I feel like I'm awaiting for my life to start, a new fresh start that is quickly moving out of my sight. It is a most restlessness, impatient type of feeling to be in a place but not want to get rooted because you know something new is just around the corner.

I love him. A lot. I thought I knew I loved him until this year, whilst driving to work, I realised, I really truly do. Now I think I understand this other facet of love. This type of love that would make the old me snark and huff and possibly do an imaginary puke hand signal. This love has changed me. It has made me eat my words, twice and I hate eating my own words. As frustrated as I am, I want to support him. I will support him. I just want him to show me that, our being together is enough of a drive for him to finish school. I want things I never wanted before. I want to be married (!!!) and have a family (!!!!!!!!!!!) and have a place of our own. I want it all with him.

So having said that, the creative inspirations has hit a cemented brick wall covered in barb wires. I can't get this underlaying anger to subside, I'm fighting between myself one second after the other and it is taking up 95% of my brain. I stuffed up so many experiments on Friday because my mind was so occupied with questions and thoughts that there was no room for logical thinking.

How ironic it is that I'm working on my wedding collection on Muntedkowhai. No huge inspirations coming forth.

Pixieblossom helps Portland conjures Spring

The news is reporting snow for tonight. Snow! No! We want spring! I doubt it will stick but how lovely would a snow day be. At home, in my pjs with my crafts and a luxury nap! My delusion of warmer weather is fueled by Pixieblossom's delicious selection of colourful bags. The colours are so attractive to me: coral reds, faded pinks, intense sky blue and flickers of marigold yellows and greens. Even her banner makes me swoon!

Her bags are super adorable! They are a mish mash get together of lace, floral cotton patterns, embroideries and crochet flowers. Be still my heart, precious precious precious:

The creator of Pixieblossoms is Zee, a native of Rio de Janeiro who now resides in Arizona with her family. Besides selling these charming bags in her Pixieblossom etsy store, she keeps a very addictively beautiful blog that details her fun creations and inspirations.

Are You Staring At My Tube? Tshirt.

Now available for owning and then staring, here.

I designed and had these tshirts screen printed last year before Muntedkowhai came into existence. I wanted to do something that was both art and science but found the process not as "hands on" as I would like. Sure I designed the image but that was it. I enjoy the creation of something much more spontaneous and always changing, thus Muntedkowhai was perfect. However, I do think there should be more art based science hand made things out for market. Not just those "SCIENCE IS AWESOME" tshirts. I like tshirts without words, an image that link us together. When I was in college, I had, for a split second wanted to be a biology text book illustrator. Oh how silly of me. Now they have super duper hi tech photographs. Doh!

A microcentrifuge tube (also known more by brand, the eppendorf tube) is used as a vessel for liquids up to 1ml or a bit more. It is capped and then put into a micro centrifuge which spins at various high speends to pellet or bring down cells to the bottom so that you can seperate cells from the liquid they were sitting in.

Muntedkowhai Head Girl

It is so great to be creating again! The first week I was back, I had no motivation to pick up the crochet hook or even come up with any new designs in my head. I was in an inspirational drought. It was mostly due to the insane man withdrawls I was going through and a bout of the flu. So for the past week, I've been creating every night and now that the weekend has arrived, I had time and sunlight to take a few photos!

These new creations are inspired by the old school pins. When I was in high school in NZ, we often wore rectangle metal pins on our blazers if we were in certain houses or if you were prefects or the headgirl.

An example of a school pin

The only thing metal about these necklaces are the charms that I have incorporated into the crochet rectangles. They make for a simple but bold piece of neck wear. Check them out! They are now available at Muntedkowhai :

Also, I'm soon to list these nerdy science Tshirts I designed last year and had them screen printed. Yes, it is an image of an eppendorf tube. Why not. Due to low funds last year, I only screen printed 4 tshirts and am going to list 3. If there is enough interest, I will screen print more in different colours and sizes!

Check outz my double jointed talent
